About Brandon
Michigan-based songwriter Brandon Z. Smith blends introspective lyrics, a poetic turn of phrase, and a twangy tenor with soaring falsetto. Rooted in soulful Americana, his music follows in the tradition of Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley, and Harry Nilsson.
Brandon also serves as a songwriting instructor at the Flint School of Performing Arts, where he helps students discover their own creative voices. Through the school’s partnership with the Carnegie Lullaby Project, his work extends beyond the classroom; writing and recording songs with mothers in Hurley Hospital’s NICU and with women in the county jail as part of the Motherly Intercession program. These projects, rooted in compassion and collaboration, reveal music’s power to heal, give voice, and create lasting connection.
